Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards – Nov. 16

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Men's Basketball Players of the Week are Michael Smith (California Baptist), Stephen Grosey (Concordia) and Josh Rodriguez (Point Loma). The awards are based on games played Oct. 29-Nov. 15.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Michael Smith (CBU)
G, Jr., South San Francisco, Calif./El Camino
 
Smith led the 11th-ranked Lancers to a 5-0 start to the season, including a victory over a top-10 opponent. He averaged 20.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, both top marks for CBU. He scored a career-high 27 points in the season-opening victory over No. 9 Minnesota State-Moorhead. He shot 11-for-13 from the free throw line and grabbed 11 rebounds to complete the double-double. He had another double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds against Upper Iowa.
                                                                                                                                       
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Stephen Grosey (Concordia)
F, Sr., San Mateo, Calif./Junipero Serra
 
Grosey led Concordia to two wins at the Dixie State Classic to start the program’s Division II era. He averaged 11.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game for the Eagles. Concordia held Seattle Pacific and Concordia (OR) to an average of 61 points per game.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Josh Rodriguez (Point Loma)
G, Fr., La Habra, Calif./Sonora
 
Rodriguez averaged 15.0 points per game on 60 percent shooting in his collegiate debut at the PacWest/GNAC Challenge. He also had 13 assists and five steals in the two contests. He had 16 points, five assists and two steals against No. 21 Western Oregon.
