IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Women’s Basketball Players of the Week are
Jasmin Guinn (Academy of Art),
Darsha Burnside (CBU) and
Emma Meriggioli (CBU). The awards are based on games played Oct. 29-Nov. 15.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jasmin Guinn (Academy of Art)
G, Sr., Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley HS
Guinn led ART U to two wins at the GNAC/PacWest Conference Challenge at MSU Billings, earning a spot on the all-tournament team. She averaged 28.0 points, 4.5 steals and 4.0 rebounds per game, shooting 64 percent from the field. She scored a season-high 29 points, including 13 in the first quarter, and had six steals against Simon Fraser. Guinn also averaged 14.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.6 steals per game in the CCA Disney Tip-Off Classic to start the year.
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Darsha Burnside (CBU)
F/C, Sr., San Bernardino, Calif./San Bernardino Valley College
Burnside was named the MVP of the GNAC/PacWest Conference Challenge at MSU Billings, leading the third-ranked Lancers to two wins. Last season’s NCAA double-double champion started the season with two more, averaging 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and 5.5 blocks per game. She had 20 points, 19 rebounds and five blocks against MSUB, and added six more blocks against Simon Fraser.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Emma Meriggioli (CBU)
G, Fr., Madison, Wis./Edgewood
Meriggioli made her collegiate debut at the GNAC/PacWest Conference Challenge at MSU Billings. She scored six points in each of CBU’s wins. She made her first career start against Simon Fraser, adding six assists and four rebounds.
