Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards – Nov. 30

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Men’s Basketball Players of the Week are Matt Hayes (Dominican), Trevor Hill (Dixie State), Kuany Kuany (Chaminade) and Josh Rodriguez (Point Loma). The awards are based on games played Nov. 23-29.

Hayes and Hill dominated the MSU-Billings Thanksgiving Tournament, leading their teams to two wins on the weekend.
 
Hayes averaged 24.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, shooting 68 percent from the field. He scored a career-high 30 points against MSUB, making 11 field goals and six three-pointers. He netted 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting and had two steals against Alaska.
 
Hill averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game, shooting 61.5 percent from the field. He also notched a career-high with 28 points against MSUB, shooting 11-for-14 from the field.
                                                                                                                                                
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Kuany Kuany (Chaminade)

Kuany averaged 8.3 rebounds per game in four contests for Chaminade on the week, including three against premiere Division I competition. In the Maui Invitational, he grabbed nine rebounds against both Kansas and UNLV, and had two steals against St. John’s. He nearly recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists in an overtime victory over Cal State San Marcos. Kuany leads the PacWest and ranks 38th in the nation in rebounding (9.7 rpg).
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Josh Rodriguez (Point Loma)
G, Fr., La Habra, Calif./Sonora
 
Rodriguez led Point Loma to a pair of wins, averaging 13.0 points and 8.5 assists per game. He dished out a career-high nine assists against Young Harris, as the Sea Lions scored 80 points on 57 percent shooting. He then scored a career-high 19 points against Cal State L.A., shooting 3-3 from three-point range and 8-8 from the free throw line. Rodriguez leads the PacWest and ranks seventh in the nation in assists (7.7 apg).
