Softball Players of the Week – April 27

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Softball Players of the Week are California Baptist’s Savannah Miller, Holy Names’ Deni Yandell, Hawai’i Hilo’s Vanessa Salinas and Academy of Art’s Brenna Mitchell. The awards are based on games played April 20-26.
 
Co-Player of the Week – Savannah Miller (CBU)
C, Sr., Waterford, Calif./Waterford
 
Miller led CBU to three wins over Dominican, batting .556 (5-9) with eight RBI and five runs scored. She also posted a 1.44 slugging percentage with three extra-base hits. She hit two grand slams in the series from the leadoff spot, giving her seven home runs on the season. She is fourth in the PacWest in runs scored (49) and tied for sixth in RBI (38).
 
Co-Player of the Week – Deni Yandell (Holy Names)
OF, Sr., Brentwood, Calif./Heritage
 
Yandell was an on-base machine for HNU over the weekend, posting an .889 average (8-9) with four walks and a .923 on-base percentage. She went 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBI in a game against NDNU. She then went 4-for-4 with another home run and three RBI in a win over Menlo. Yandell has reached base in nine-consecutive games and is fourth in the conference in on-base percentage (.516).
 
Pitcher of the Week – Vanessa Salinas (Hawai’i Hilo)
RHP, Sr., Madera, Calif./Madera
 
Salinas earned her second weekly honor with her longest outing of the season. Salinas threw all 10 innings of UHH’s win over Hawai’i Pacific, allowing just six hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out eight. She surrendered only three hits in the final four innings, allowing Hilo to complete the comeback win. Salinas is fourth in the PacWest in ERA (1.98), second in innings pitched (183.2) and fifth in strikeouts (91).
 
Newcomer of the Week – Brenna Mitchell (Academy of Art)
RHP, Fr., Fairfield, Calif./Angelo Rodriguez
 
Mitchell picked up her third weekly conference honor with her third-career shutout. She struck out seven and allowed five hits against NDNU to earn her 20th win on the season, tied for the second-most in the PacWest. She also leads the PacWest in innings pitched (205.2).
