IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Tennis Players of the Week are Hawai’i Pacific’s Thibaud Berland and Yann Renault, and Academy of Art’s Lucia Zavarcikova. The awards are based on matches played March 30-April 5.

Berland and Renault proved why they are the fifth-ranked doubles pair in the NCAA with four impressive wins during the Sharks’ tour through Florida last week. They started out the week by beating the No. 1 doubles tandem in the nation from West Florida, 8-4, and also knocked off the No. 4 doubles pair from Concordia College (NY), 8-5. The duo is 8-1 at No. 1 doubles on the season. Berland also had three wins at No. 2 singles, including a straight-set victory over ninth-ranked Alex Peyrot of West Florida (6-3, 6-4). Renault won twice at No. 6 singles and had two matches unfinished.
 
Women’s Player of the Week – Lucia Zavarcikova (Academy of Art)
Jr., Bratislava, Slovakia
 
Zavarcikova won all four of her matches as No. 11 Academy of Art beat two nationally-ranked PacWest teams. Playing at No. 2 singles, she beat Azusa Pacific’s Valeriia Kashina (6-4, 6-1) and Cal State L.A.’s Sonia Landeros (6-3, 7-5). She also paired with Jenny Johansson for two wins at No. 2 doubles.
