2015 All-PacWest Men's Tennis Team
IRVINE, Calif. – Two-time defending PacWest Champion Hawai’i Pacific led the conference once again in All-PacWest Men’s Tennis awards, announced by the league office on Friday. The Sharks earned four singles and two doubles honors, as well as two individual awards.
Azusa Pacific’s
Jan Meyer was named the PacWest Player of the Year, becoming the second honoree in the history of the program. He posted a 19-1 record at No. 1 singles this year, which included a straight-set victory over the No. 1 player in the nation, Armstrong’s Fernando Bogajo. Meyer took over the national No. 1 ranking on March 25, and has held onto the spot ever since. He teamed with
Gary Yam to form a doubles tandem ranked No. 2 in the region and No. 15 in the nation.
HPU’s
Marko Lenz was named the PacWest Newcomer of the Year. The junior from Germany was a perfect 18-0 at No. 1 singles on the season, including six wins over nationally-ranked opponents. He was also 18-3 in doubles play, with five wins over nationally-ranked doubles pairs with teammate
Thibaud Berland.
Point Loma’s
CJ Erion was named the PacWest Freshman of the Year. Erion posted a 16-5 record at No. 5 singles in his first year of collegiate competition. He won his final six-consecutive matches of the year
Hendrik Bode was named PacWest Coach of the Year for the third-consecutive year. He continued HPU’s streak of national dominance with an undefeated season (21-0), a national No. 1 ranking and a third-consecutive PacWest Championship title. The Sharks beat 11 nationally-ranked teams, including two wins over defending National Champion West Florida.
The PacWest tennis awards and teams are based on a combination of coach voting and national rankings. The individual player and coach awards are nominated and selected by the PacWest coaches. The All-PacWest teams are based on the ITA West Region rankings released prior to the NCAA Championship (April 22).
