2015 All-PacWest Women's Tennis Team
IRVINE, Calif. – BYU-Hawaii led the way in All-PacWest Women’s Tennis honors once again, as the awards were announced by the league office on Friday. The Seasiders won three singles, two doubles and two individual awards.
Dallas Zhang repeated as the PacWest Player of the Year. A first-team All-PacWest selection in both singles and doubles again, Zhang went 16-2 in singles and 20-3 in doubles on the season. The No. 1 ranked doubles player in the nation won her final eight-consecutive singles matches of the year. She joined
Elwen Li and
Annie Hwang as the only repeat PacWest Players of the Year.
Dave Porter was named the PacWest Coach of the Year for the eighth-consecutive time. He guided the Seasiders to a 30-1 record, their 16
th season with one loss or less since becoming Division II in 1999, and ninth-consecutive PacWest Championship title. BYUH is ranked No.3 in the nation and is the top-seed in the West Region heading into the NCAA Championship.
Hawai’i Pacific earned the other two individual awards with PacWest Newcomer of the Year
Nicole Hoynaski and PacWest Freshman of the Year
Kristyna Hancarova. Hoynaski, a transfer from the University of Memphis, went 16-7 in singles this year, with 14 wins at No. 2. Hancarova stepped right into No., 1 singles in her first year as a Shark, recording a 12-6 record with four wins over nationally-ranked opponents. The duo teamed up to form HPU’s No. 1 doubles team, going 15-3 and earned the No. 5 ranking in the nation.
The PacWest tennis awards and teams are based on a combination of coach voting and national rankings. The individual player and coach awards are nominated and selected by the PacWest coaches. The All-PacWest teams are based on the ITA West Region rankings released prior to the NCAA Championship (April 22).
