Women’s Soccer Weekly Awards – Sept. 28

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Women’s Soccer Players of the Week are Mariah Meza (Dominican), Morgan Wirz (Academy of Art) and Brianna Meyer (Concordia). The awards are based on games played Sept. 21-27.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mariah Meza (Dominican)
F, So., Santa Rosa, Calif./Windsor
 
Meza tallied three goals on the week, putting all seven of her shots on goal in two games. She scored the game-winner and added an insurance goal in Dominican’s first win of the season over CBU. She also scored the game-tying goal in a 2-1 loss to Concordia.
 
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Morgan Wirz (Academy of Art)
GK, Fr., Lino Lakes, Calif./Centennial
 
Wirz started ART U’s Hawaiian road trip on a good start, recording her first-career shutout in a 1-0 win over Hawai’i Pacific. She made a career-best nine saves, battling through incredibly wet and muddy field conditions for her first collegiate win.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Brianna Meyer (Concordia)
F, Fr., Orange, Calif./Mater Dei
 
Meyer had the best game of her young career against Holy Names, leading the Eagles to their third-straight win. She scored two goals, the first of her career, on six shots. Her scores came within two minutes of one another.
