Kyle McLay (Holy Names) and
Sterling Hawkins (Academy of Art). The awards are based on events played Sept. 29-Oct. 5.
MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Kyle McLay (Holy Names)
Jr. – Oxnard, Calif./Rio Mesa
McLay took home all-tournament honors at the Chico State InterWest Insurance Wildcat Classic at the Butte Creek Country Club, finishing tied for second with a 1-under par 215. A 70 in the first round helped McLay sit at 1-under after the first day. He shot an even par 72 in the third round to tie Andrew Fernandes (Cal State Dominguez Hills), just one stroke off tournament champion Nic Beno (Colorado School of Mines). McLay finished with 11 birdies in the tournament.
WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Sterling Hawkins (Academy of Art)
Jr. – San Jose, Calif./Willow Glen
Hawkins won the individual title at the Dixie State Invitational, carding a 3-under 141 in the two rounds at the San Hollow Golf Course. She led 72-player field with an even par in the first round and shot a career-best 69 in the second round. It was the first individual tournament win for Hawkins.
