Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards – Nov. 14

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Men’s Basketball Players of the Week are Chauncey Orr (Hawai’i Pacific), De’jon Davis (California Baptist) and Dante Williams (Academy of Art). The awards are based on games played Nov. 7-13.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chauncey Orr (Hawai’i Pacific)
G – Gr. – Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green
 
Orr lead HPU to a pair of wins in the GNAC-PacWest Challenge in Honolulu, averaging 24.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He shot 54.2 percent from the field and made 19 free throws. He had 27 points and 14 rebound against Alaska, shooting 13-for-14 at the free throw line. He had 22 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal against No. 12 Alaska Anchorage. He scored 18 points in the first half, helping erase an early seven-point deficit and scoring the final seven points of the half to give the Sharks a lead they would not relinquish.
 
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
De’jon Davis (CBU)
F – Fr. – Oakland, Calif./Oakland Technical
 
Davis nearly averaged a double-double in the two games of the Lancers Tip-Off Challenge, registering 9.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. He had 16 rebounds and two blocks in his first college game against Montana State Billings. It was the most rebounds by a Lancer since 2012.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Dante Williams (Academy of Art)
G – Fr. – Compton, Calif./St. Anthony
 
Williams averaged 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, and was a perfect 16-for-16 from the free throw line to start his collegiate career. He scored 16 points in 19 minutes off the bench against San Francisco State, shooting 10-for-10 at the free throw line. He posted a career-high 17 points, four assists and two steals in an overtime victory over Stanislaus State.
