Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards – Dec. 5

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Women’s Basketball Players of the Week are Sandra Ikeora (Dominican), Helena Orts (Academy of Art) and Cassie Pisik (Fresno Pacific). The awards are based on games played Nov. 28-Dec. 4.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sandra Ikeora (Dominican)
F – Jr. – Valencia, Calif./Valencia
 
Ikeora earned her second weekly honor of the season with a historic performance over two games. She averaged 23.5 points, 17.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game in two Dominican wins. She had 22 points, 25 rebounds, five blocks and three steals against Cal State Monterey Bay. The 25 rebounds were a Dominican DII record and the third-most in a game in Division II this season. She followed that with 25 points and nine rebounds against Holy Names, making 11 of her 14 free throws. Ikeora leads the PacWest and is 11th in the nation with 44 free throws on the season.
 
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Helena Orts (Academy of Art)
F – Jr. – Barcelona, Spain/Fairfield University
 
Orts posted her third-career double-double in Academy of Art’s 73-56 win over Fresno Pacific in their PacWest opener. The Fairfield transfer had 15 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals. She grabbed 10 defensive boards as the Urban Knights held the Sunbirds under 30 percent shooting and to 12 second chance points. Orts ranks seventh in the PacWest in defensive rebounds (6.1 rpg).
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Cassie Pisik (Fresno Pacific)
G – Fr. – Tucson, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge
 
Pisik joined the starting lineup this week for the Sunbirds, averaging 15.3 points and 9.7 rebounds in three games. She notched her first double-double with 13 points and a career-high 18 rebounds against Cal Maritime. She added 17 points, seven rebounds and three steals against Academy of Art. She closed out the week with 16 points and three assists against Point Loma.
