Golf Weekly Awards – Feb. 25

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Golfers of the Week are Dane Nelson (Dixie State) and Crystal Wang (Academy of Art). The awards are based on matches played Feb. 18-24.
 
MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dane Nelson (Dixie State)

Nelson took home medalist honors at the CSUSB Coyote Classic, his first collegiate individual win. He led the field wire-to-wire and carded under-par scores to finish with a 6-under 207. He shot a career-best 5-under 66 in round one, followed by an even par 71 in round two. On Tuesday, he shot a 1-under 70 to win the tournament by two strokes. Dixie State finished fourth as a team in the 12-school event.
 
WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Crystal Wang (Academy of Art)
Jr., La Jolla, Calif./University HS
 
Wang won the individual title at the CBU Invitational, carding a two-round score of 148 at the Eagle Glen Golf Club. She shot a 1-over par 73 in the first round, putting her in a tie for the lead. She followed that with a 75 in the second round to beat the field by five strokes. CBU’s Marvi Monsalve and Erica Wang tied for second (153). The win was Wang’s first since she won the NCAA Regional last year.
