IRVINE, Calif. – The brackets for the 2016 PacWest Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships were finalized with the completion of the regular season on Saturday. Nearly every game on the full 14-game schedule impacted the final standings and tournament tiebreakers.

The quarterfinals begin on Thursday, followed by the semifinals on Friday and finals on Saturday. For the first time, the schedule will alternate between men’s and women’s games in the first two rounds. Tickets are available for purchase online now (CLICK HERE), with single-game tickets for $12 and all-tournament passes for $29. (Online purchases are the only way to pay with credit/debit card, cash only at the event). Student tickets will be sold at the door only for $5. Children 12 and under receive free admission.

WOMEN
Azusa Pacific and California Baptist were named co-champions with identical 19-1 conference records. Per the PacWest basketball sport regulations, ties for seeding are first broken by head-to-head record and record against teams in descending order of finish. Since APU and CBU only lost to each other, the third tiebreaker will be implemented – highest ranking by the NCAA West Region Regional Advisory Committee. Azusa Pacific was ranked ahead of CBU in the ranings released March second; making APU the No. 1 seed and CBU the No. 2 seed.

No. 3 Academy of Art takes on No. 6 Point Loma in the women’s opener at 2:45 p.m. No. 5 Dominican faces No. 4 Hawai’i Pacific, the defending tournament champion, in the finale of day one at 7:15 p.m.

MEN
A four-way tie at the top of the conference standings put the head-to-head tiebreaker into play to determine the top-three seeds in the men’s tournament. Azusa Pacific repeated as conference champion and No. 1 seed with a 6-0 record against the other three teams. Dixie State earned the No. 2 seed and a bye into the semifinals with a 3-3 record.

California Baptist earned the No. 3 seed and will play No. 6 Dominican to open the tournament on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The Penguins made the field based on a tiebreaker with Chaminade, having beaten APU in the regular season. The other men’s quarterfinal features No. 4 Hawai’i Pacific against No. 5 BYU-Hawaii at 5 p.m.
