Softball Weekly Awards – Feb. 29

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Softball Players of the Week are Brenna Mitchell (Academy of Art), Aryn Feickert (Dixie State) and Bailey Gaspar (Hawai’i Hilo). The awards are based on games played Feb. 22-28.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brenna Mitchell (Academy of Art)
P/IF, So., Fairfield, Calif./Angelo Rodriguez
 
Mitchell led Art U to a sweep of Holy Names in the PacWest opener for both schools. She went 4-for-6 in the doubleheader with three RBI and three runs scored. She went 3-for-3 in the first game and hit a two-run home run in the second. She ranks ninth in the PacWest in slugging percentage (.688).
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Aryn Feickert (Dixie State)
RHP, Sr., Lancaster, Calif./Highland
 
Feickert earned three wins as Dixie State won four games in Colorado. She posted a 1.00 ERA, allowing just two runs in 14.0 innings pitched. She struck out 20 against five walks, and allowed only six hits. She threw two no-hit innings in the first game against Fort Lewis and came back in the second to throw a complete-game one-hitter, striking out 11. Feickert has won in her last six appearances, bring her record to 8-2.
 
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Bailey Gaspar (Hawai’i Hilo)
IF, So.-TR, Vancouver, Wash./Mountain View
 
Gaspar led Hawai’i Hilo to a four-game sweep of Notre Dame de Namur, bringing the Vulcans to 8-0 in PacWest play. She hit .600 (6-10) with two doubles, two walks and four RBI. She went 4-for-4 with two RBI in the series opener.
