Alan Leahy (Azusa Pacific) and
Michelle Dandik Zaale (Academy of Art). The awards are based on matches played Jan. 25-31.
MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alan Leahy (Azusa Pacific)

Leahy earned two singles wins in APU’s season-opening doubleheader sweep of Hope International and Pomona Pitzer. Playing at No. 1 singles for the first time in his career, Leahy beat Hope’s Mauricio Mosquero in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). He broke Mosquero’s serve in the fifth game of the second set, and went on to win the final five games of the match. Leahy returned to his usual spot in the lineup against Pomona-Pitzer, topping Sam Malech at No. 4 (6-4, 6-0).
WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Michelle Dandik Zaale (Academy of Art)

Dandik Zaale led Academy of Art to a 6-1 season-opening win over Division I Portland State. In singles, Dandik Zaale defeated Tracy Dong at No. 3 (4-6, 7-5, 11-9). After losing the first set and trailing 5-2 in the second, she managed to win five-straight games to force a tiebreaker. The senior led early, only to see Dong tie the score at nine. However, the Quebec native won the next two points to win the match. In doubles, Dandik Zaale partnered with Paula Alcantara to defeat Portland, 6-0.
