IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Men’s Basketball Players of the Week are
Gelaun Wheelwright (California Baptist),
Jase Harrison (Academy of Art) and
Zac Young (Holy Names). The awards are based on games played Feb. 1-7.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gelaun Wheelwright (CBU)
G, Sr., Riverside, Calif./Weber State
Wheelwright earned his second weekly honor, averaging 28.5 points per game for the Lancers. He scored a career-high 38 points against BYU-Hawaii, the highest scoring output in the conference this season, as CBU swept the season series with the Seasiders for the first time ever. He was 7-for-11 on three-pointers and played a pivotal role in the comeback victory. He scored 19 points at Dixie State, connecting on 9-of-10 free throws. Wheelwright is fourth in the PacWest in scoring (17.2 ppg) and eighth in the nation in three-point field goals (77).
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Jase Harrison (Academy of Art)
G, So., Palmdale, Calif./Northfield Mount Hermon
Harrison fueled a defensive effort that led Academy of Art to a 66-58 win over Holy Names. He tied the ArtU program record with six steals, as the Urban Knights set a team record with 19 steals in the game. Harrison also had team-highs of 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Harrison is third in the PacWest in steals per game (2.0 spg).
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Zac Young (Holy Names)
F, Fr., Brisbane, Australia/Brisbane State HS
Young averaged 9.7 points on 63.2 percent shooting (12-19), and 6.7 rebounds in three games for Holy Names on the week. He had 10 rebounds and four assists against Academy of Art. He scored a career-high 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the win over Hawai’i Hilo.
