IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Softball Players of the Week are
Dahlen Dennis (Dominican),
Grayson Harvey (Concordia) and
Brenna Youngquist (Academy of Art). The awards are based on games played March 7-13.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dahlen Dennis (Dominican)
UT, Fr., Fremont, Calif./Irvington
Dennis led Dominican to a 6-2 record on its Hawaii road trip, hitting .500 (12-24) with two doubles, three home runs, nine RBI and nine runs scored. She recorded 23 total bases and a .958 slugging percentage. She was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the first game against Chaminade. She homered in each game of a doubleheader sweep of BYU-Hawaii on Saturday, driving in five of the Penguins’ 16 runs. Dennis ranks seventh in the PacWest in home runs (4) and slugging percentage (.675).
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Grayson Harvey (Concordia)
RHP, So., Apple Valley, Calif./Apple Valley
Harvey was instrumental in three of CUI’s six wins on the week. In 14.2 innings pitched, she did not allow a run, gave up three hits and five walks, and struck out 16. She tossed a complete game one-hitter with six strikeouts against Doane (Neb.). In Concordia’s doubleheader sweep of No. 8 California Baptist, she threw another complete game shutout in the first game and struck out the final two batters for a save in the second game. That performance came one week after CBU hit her around for 10 hits and five runs in a doubleheader split. Harvey leads the PacWest in ERA (0.78), strikeouts (104), wins (14) and opponent’s batting average (.146).
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Brenna Youngquist (Academy of Art)
IF, Fr., Buena Park, Calif./Kennedy
Youngquist helped ART U win three of four games against Chaminade to open its Hawaiian road trip. She hit .538 (7-13) with a double, a home run, six RBI and three runs scored. In the final game of the series, she went 4-for-4 and set the program record with six RBI.
