LITCHFIELD, PARK, Ariz. – Dixie State won the 2016 PacWest Men’s Golf Championship tournament, repeating as the top team in the conference and NCAA Regional automatic qualifier. The Trailblazers’ four scoring players all placed in the top-10 in the three-round tournament at the Wigwam Golf Course.
Dixie State’s second round put the team in position to win, as they shot a 4-under 284 to take a six-stroke lead into the final day. The Trailblazers shot a 2-over 290 in the third round to finish at 868, 15 strokes ahead of the competition.
Compton Pikari (215) finished tied for second,
Andrew Chu (220) tied for fifth,
Donny Hoppoi (221) tied for seventh and
Dane Nelson (222) came in ninth. Dixie State became the first repeat winner since Grand Canyon in 2012-13.
BYU-Hawaii’s
Brent Grant won the individual title, shooting a 7-under par 209. He shot 69 in the first and second round, and was also under with a 71 in the third. He had a tournament-best 14 birdies and was 9-under on overall on the four par-5 holes. He is the first Seasider to win the individual championship at the event.
The top-10 individual performers were named to the PacWest Championship All-Tournament team. Dominican’s
Ty Macias (T2-215) and
Drew Nelson (T5-220), CBU’s
Kavan Eubank (4-215) and
Greg Gonzalez (T7-221), BYU-Hawaii’s
Nicholas Herrera (T10-223) and Holy Names’
Tucker Williams (T10-223) all received the honor.
BYU-Hawaii finished in second place at 883, with Dominican (884), California Baptist (887) and Hawai’i Hilo (910) rounding out the top-five.
