IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Baseball Players of the Week are
Pablo O’Connor (Azusa Pacific),
Alexander Kuisel (Academy of Art) and
Brett Bovee (Academy of Art). The awards are based on games played April 18-24.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Pablo O’Connor (Azusa Pacific)
OF, So., El Cajon, Calif./Monte Vista
O’Connor earned the second-consecutive honor for an APU outfielder, leading the Cougars to a four-game sweep of Concordia to give them seven wins in their last nine games. O’Connor hit .467 (7-15) with two doubles, two home runs, six RBI, two runs scored and a 1.000 slugging percentage. After the Cougars surrendered a three-run lead in the ninth inning of the third game, O’Connor hit a walk-off solo home run for the win. He is seventh in the PacWest in hits (55) and eighth in RBI (35).

Brett Bovee (Academy of Art)

Bovee and Kuisel became the first Academy of Art pitchers to throw complete game shutouts in consecutive games In the Urban Knights’ series with Hawai’i Hilo. In the opener, Bovee allowed just five hits and two walks, while striking out four, in his second-career complete game. He had a no-hitter through 5.2 innings, and was nearly perfect in fact, issuing just one walk. Kuisel earned the win in the next game, throwing a two-hitter with a career-high eight strikeouts and one walk. He retired 22-of-23 batters faced in one stretch in his first-career complete game shutout.
