2016 All-PacWest Men's Golf Team

IRVINE, Calif.
– The 2016 All-PacWest Men’s Golf Team was announced on Tuesday, following a vote by the league’s coaches. Brent Grant (BYU-Hawaii) was named Golfer of the Year, Andew Chu (Dixie State) was named Freshman of the Year and Bob Owan (BYU-Hawaii) was named Coach of the Year.

Grant joined BYU-Hawaii this season to become the program’s first PacWest Golfer of the Year. Currently ranked No. 12 in Division II, he averaged a score of 71.93 in 15 rounds played. He won the Mustang Challenge with a 13-under 203, leading the Seasiders to their first team tournament title. He then won the individual title at the PacWest Championship, shooting a 7-under par 209. He carded a 69 in each of the first two rounds and had a tournament-best 14 birdies.

Chu earned the third PacWest Freshman of the Year honor in Dixie State history. Currently ranked 97th in Division II, he posted an average score of 73.61 in 23 rounds. He carded 10 rounds of par or better, including eight under par. He won medalist honors at the 44th Annual Western Washington Invitational, his second collegiate tournament, with a 6-under 210 to lead Dixie State to the team title. He finished tied for fifth at the PacWest Championships as Dixie State repeated as conference champion.

Owan won the first PacWest Coach of the Year for BYU-Hawaii. He led BYU-Hawaii to a No. 16 ranking and the fifth seed in the West Region. BYU-Hawaii won the Mustang Intercollegiate, the first team tournament victory in program history, and finished second at the Lancer Invitational and PacWest Championship.

PacWest champion Dixie State led the conference with five All-PacWest selections. BYU-Hawaii earned three, and California Baptist, Dominican and Hawai’i Hilo each earned two.
