Men’s Cross Country Weekly Awards – Sept. 20

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Men’s Cross Country Runners of the Week are Joshua Thornson (Academy of Art), Alex Torres (Fresno Pacific), and Marvin Thomas (Academy of Art). The awards are based on races Sept. 12-18.
 
CO-RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Joshua Thorson (Academy of Art)
Gr. – Plymouth, Minn./University of Wisconsin-EAU Claire
 
Thorson was the top Division II finisher at the Speedway Meadow Duals in San Francisco on Thursday.  He placed second overall with an average mile time of 5:02 and an overall time of 22:41, helping Academy of Art to a third-place overall finish. Thorson battled with Gabe Arias-Sheridan of Division I St. Mary’s the entire race, and led most of the final stretch, but was beaten by just a step at the finish line.
 
CO-RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Alex Torres (Fresno Pacific)
So. – Kingsburg, Calif./Kingsburg
 
Torres was the 10th Division II finisher and 39th overall at the UCR Invitational on Saturday.  With an average mile time of 5:02, he set a personal-best with his overall time of 25:02.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Marvin Thomas (Academy of Art)
Fr. – Aschaffenburg, Germany/Friedrich Dessauer Gym
 
Thomas finished 33rd overall at the Speedway Meadow Duals on Thursday.  He had an average mile time of 5:28 and an overall time of 24:40.  He helped Academy of Art to a third-place overall finish.
