Men’s Cross Country Weekly Awards – Sept. 6

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Men’s Cross Country Runners of the Week are Valentin Robert (CBU), Joshua Thorson (Academy of Art) and Tristen Thomson (Concordia). The awards are based on races Sept. 1-4.

Robert and Thorson both had stellar performances in their first meets of the season. Robert, the top-returning PacWest male cross country runner, won the Lancer Invitational for the third-consecutive year with a time of 18:59. CBU posted five of the top-seven finishers to win the event with 20 points. Thorson, a graduate student and Division III National Champion, was the top-DII performer at the San Francisco Invitational. He finished 20th overall with a time of 25:10.5, and improved 10 places in the final 6k of the 8k race.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Tristen Thomson (Concordia)
Fr. – Fallon, Nev./Churchill County
 
Thomson debuted at the Lancer Invitational, finishing eighth overall with a time of 19:21. He was the top freshman competitor in the field of 79, averaging 5:11 per mile in the 6k race.
