Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards – Feb. 27

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Men’s Basketball Players of the Week are Parker Farris (Hawai’i Hilo), Josh Rodriguez (Point Loma), Connor Looney(Hawai’i Pacific) and Andre Green (Holy Names). The awards are based on games played Feb. 20-26.
 
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Parker Farris (Hawai’i Hilo)
G – Sr. – McKinleyville, Calif./McKinleyville
 
Farris closed out his collegiate career with 101 points over his final three games, averaging 33.7 points per contest. He made 16 three-pointers and shot 31-for-36 at the free throw line. He scored 39 points on 12-of-20 shooting and had eight rebounds at Holy Names. He set the Hilo single-game scoring record with 47 points in the season-finale win at Fresno Pacific. He made 13 field goals, six three-pointers and 15 free throws for the second-best scoring performance in the PacWest this season. Farris had three of the 10 best scoring games in the PacWest this year, topped 30 points five times and finished second in the league in scoring (23.3 ppg).
 
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Josh Rodriguez (Point Loma)
G – So. – La Habra, Calif./Sonora
 
Rodriguez led Point Loma to a 77-71 win at No. 5 California Baptist on Saturday night with 16 points, seven assists and three steals in a second-half comeback. Point Loma trailed 64-54 with 5:52 remaining, but made seven of its last 10 shots in a 23-7 run to close the game. Rodriguez started the run with two free throws and a transition three-pointer to cut the deficit in half. He then assisted two three-pointers by Mike Planeta to make it a one-point game, 66-65, at 3:31. On three-consecutive possessions, he grabbed an offensive rebound that led to a layup by Zach Burnham, assisted a Burnham dunk as the shot clock nearly expired and fed Planeta for another three to put Point Loma ahead, 75-71. Rodriguez had a hand in 18 of Point Loma’s points during the decisive run.
 
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Connor Looney (Hawai’i Pacific)
G – Sr. – Palmer, Alaska/Palmer
 
Looney helped eighth-ranked Hawai’i Pacific win its first regular season championship with victories over Dixie State and Chaminade to end the year. He averaged 17.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per game. He had 24 points, eight rebounds, four steals and four assists against Dixie State. He had 11 points, three steals and two blocks against Chaminade. He ranked second in the PacWest in steals (64) and steals per game (2.3 spg).
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Andre Green (Holy Names)
G – Fr.-RS – Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek
 
Green earned his second weekly conference honor, averaging 15.5 points, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals in Holy Names’ final two games. He scored a career-high 21 points for the second-straight game in a win over Hawai’i Hilo. He shot 9-for-12 from the field and had four assists and three steals. He then had 10 points, five rebounds and two steals in the season finale at Dixie State.
