IRVINE, Calif. – The fields for the 2017 PacWest Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships were finalized Sunday and the official brackets announced Monday by the conference office. The tournaments return to the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Center in Surprise, Ariz., April 19-22.
The women’s tournament is a 12-team event for the second year. The 5-12 seeds will play first round matches at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19. The top-four seeds receive a bye into the quarterfinals, and will play the first round winners at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. The first round losing teams will play consolation matches at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
BYU-Hawaii, the top-ranked team in the nation, earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament. The Seasiders will play for their 11
th-consecutive conference title in their final PacWest Championship appearance. Hawai’i Pacific earned the No. 2 seed, followed by Academy of Art at No. 3 and Cal State L.A. at No. 4.
The men’s tournament features an eight-team field and begins play with the quarterfinals on Thursday. All matches will be played at 9 a.m.
Sixth-ranked Hawai’i Pacific will defend its four PacWest Championship titles again as the No. 1 seed. Azusa Pacific, ranked 11
th in the nation, earned the No. 2 seed. The Cougars have finished runner-up in each of the last three tournaments. BYU-Hawaii is No. 3 and Hawai’i Hilo is No. 4.
