IRVINE, Calif. -- California Baptist led the PacWest in both men's and women's golf over the weekend, recording the conference's top scores in both the Sonoma State Invitational on the men's side and the Skyhalk West Regional Preview on the women's side.
Five PacWest teams were in action at the Sonoma State Invitational with three placing inside the top 10 led by California Baptist in fifth place. The Lancers shot a 73-over-par 937, while Holy Names was just five strokes behind in sixth place at 78-over-par 942 as its three-round score. Dominican joined them in the top 10 in eighth place with a score of 83-over-par 947 on the 6940-yard, par-72 Fountaingrove Golf Club.
Academy of Art had the top individual finisher in
Matthew Watkins, who tied for the tournament's best single round, shooting a 2-under-par 70 in the third round for an overall score of 10-over-par 226, tying for fifth place. California Baptist's
Ben Hallam was just one stroke behind as he tied for seventh place. Holy Names'
Kyle McLay also finished inside the top 10 at 13-over-par 229.
On the women's side, California Baptist took seventh place out of 20 teams, while Academy of Art finished in 12th place. The Lancers finished the first round in fifth place with a score of 21-over-par 305 and finished the tournament with a score of 44-over-par 612. Academy of Art had a strong finish with a 22-over-par 306 in the second round to finish the tournament at 50-over-par 618.
California Baptist was led by
Samantha Martirez, who shot a 7-over-par 149 to tie for ninth place. In the second round, Martirez recorded three birdies to finish at even-par 71.
Anahi Servin paced the Urban Knights at 10-over-par 152, finishing in a tie for 21st place. Servin nailed four birdies in the first round and was in 11th place after the first 18 holes.

Martirez tied for ninth place at the Skyhawk West Regional Preview with a score of 7-over-par 149 at the 6039-yard, par-71 Hillcrest Golf Club. The sophomore tied for second among West Region golfers and shot a low round of even-par 71. During that round, Martirez registered three birdies totaling five in the tournament. Martirez led the Lancers to a seventh-place finish out of 20 teams in the tournament.

Watkins tied for fith place at the Sonoma State Invitational with a score of 10-over-par 226. Watkins' 2-under-par 70 in the third round was tied for the best round by any player in the tournament. He helped Academy of Art take 11th place out of 13 teams. Watkins shot a 6-over-par 78 in each of the first two rounds.
