PACWEST MEN’S BASKETBALL WEEKLY NOTEBOOK
IRVINE, Calif. -- Concordia and Point Loma both earned home wins against Azusa Pacific and Biola last week to move into a tie for first place at 4-0 after two weeks of conference play.
Brian Chambers had 15 points, seven steals and five assists on Wednesday as Concordia defeated Azusa Pacific, while
Geoff Gerlach added 18 points and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile in San Diego,
Daulton Hommes scored 18 points, making 7 of 10 shots from inside the arc as
Ben Okhotin went 4 for 6 from beyond the arc to lead the Sea Lions to an 82-54 win over Biola.
Hommes scored another 19 points on Saturday to lead Point Loma to a victory against Azusa Pacific. Concordia fought off a comeback by Biola in the second half and held on for an 84-78 win with six players in double figures.
Holy Names earned its first conference win of the season, taking out Dominican at home on Sunday night with a 71-58 victory.
This week, Chaminade will play three home games, beginning with a contest against Hawai`i Pacific at noon on Tuesday. The Silverswords will also play Holy Names on Saturday, right before hosting Western Washington on Sunday. Azusa Pacific and Biola are currently tied for fourth place and will play each other in La Mirada on Saturday in a Cornerstone Cup rematch.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brian Chambers, Concordia
G, Sr., 6-2 -- Long Beach, Calif.
Chambers led Concordia to two wins last week against a pair of teams that entered the week undefeated in conference play. Concordia is now 4-0 and tied for first place in the PacWest standings. Chambers scored 33 points with a conference-best 11 assists on the week. He also recorded a season-high seven steals against Azusa Pacific and continues to lead the PacWest in that category. Against Biola, Chambers added two more steals and was a perfect 12 for 12 from the free-throw line to go along with his nine rebounds. He is now averaging 16.4 points per game.
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Jordan Bryant, Holy Names
F, Jr., 6-8 -- Los Angeles
Bryant played a key role off the bench in Holy Names’ win against Dominican, which was the Hawks’ first conference win of the season. The junior played a season-high 15 minutes and recorded three blocks and a steal with five rebounds. Bryant also scored six points on 3-of-4 shooting to help Holy Names to a 71-58 win. Bryant now has five steals and four blocks on the season with 12 rebounds. He helped hold the Penguins to a 29.4 shooting percentage from three-point territory.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Alex Wright, Biola
G, Fr., 6-5 -- Riverside, Calif.
Wright scored 24 points in two games last week for Biola. The freshman recorded his third-consecutive game with double-digit scoring against Concordia with 11 points and four rebounds. He ranked second in the conference on the week in steals with four to go along with one block. Wright went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc to boost his shooting percentage to 46.7 during his freshman season.
