Schnaitter Leads Azusa Pacific To Historic Win To Earn Weekly Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – This week's PacWest Players of the Week are Alma Thell-Lenntorp from Academy of Art and Jakob Schnaitter from Azusa Pacific. Hawai`i Pacific women's tennis won a battle of top-10 nationally-ranked teams, beating Academy of Art 5-4 this week. Azusa Pacific got a huge win on the men's side, beating Hawai`i Pacific 8-1 for the program's first win over HPU since 2012.
 
MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Schnaitter helped Azusa Pacific win both of its matches on the week, beating Holy Names 8-1 before triumphing over Hawai`i Pacific for the first time since 2012. Against Holy Names, Schnaitter won at No. 2 doubles with Tony Pejic as the No. 10 doubles pairing in the nation remained undefeated. In singles, the freshman was bumped up to the No. 2 slot and defeated Hugo Colpart, 6-2, 6-3. Schnaitter then helped Azusa Pacific defeat the Sharks 8-1, beating HPU for the first time after four-consecutive losses in the PacWest Tournament final. Pejic and Schnaitter won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles and then the freshman won again at No. 3 singles, beating No. 46 Gerardo Irrarrazabal, 6-1, 6-0 for his 10th-consecutive singles win. Between singles and doubles, Schnaitter now has an 18-2 record on the season.
 
WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Thell-Lenntorp helped the Urban Knights to a 2-1 record on the week. Following a narrow 4-5 loss to Hawai`i Pacific, Academy of Art earned two key wins against Concordia, 6-3, and Cal State LA, 5-4. In her six matches, Thell-Lenntorp earned six points for the Urban Knights in those three matches. In the battle of two top-10 programs, Thell-Lenntorp partnered with her twin sister Klara to hand Hawai`i Pacific its first doubles loss of the year at the No. 1 position, winning 8-3. She then won at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-4 to get Academy of Art to within a point of victory. The twins remained undefeated in doubles with an 8-1 victory against Concordia before Thell-Lenntorp earned another win at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1, finishing her match first. She made it a perfect week against Cal State LA, winning both matches easily, 8-3 in doubles and 6-0, 6-2 in singles. This year, Thell-Lenntorp record of 7-1 in both singles and doubles.
