Azusa Pacific & Academy of Art Split Track & Field Awards

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest  Track & Field Athletes of the Week are Mobolade Ajomale and Hannah Hensley from Academy of Art and Chad Ponciano and Jaylah Walker from Azusa Pacific. The awards are based on competition from March 12-18.
 
WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jaylah Walker, Azusa Pacific
So.- Riverside, Calif./La Sierra 
 
Walker won 400m hurdles (1:00.30), posting NCAA provisional qualifier in the event, and is currently the fastest time in NCAA Division II. The sophomore also competed in 200 meter dash, placing third with a time of 24.94 seconds. Walker a leg of the 4x100 meter relay which placed 6th with a time of 48.39 seconds at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Invitational.
 
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Hannah Hensley, Academy of Art

En route to a NCAA Nationals provisional-qualifying 4910 points in the Heptathlon which ranks second in the country thus far, Hensley won the high jump and 800m events while also placing among the top five in the 100-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, and long jump. She highlighted the first day by clearing a 5-foot, 8-inches (1.72m) high jump bar for her season-best and a mark now third in all of NCAA Division II.
 
MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Mobolade Ajomale, Academy of Art

Fresh off a successful title defense of his NCAA DII Indoor 60m & 200m National Championships, Ajomale delivered an Outdoor Nationals provisional-qualifying 10.32 seconds in the 100-meter dash at the Hornet Invitational which not only rose him to No. 1 in DII, but also put him in a tie with South Alabama's Rafael Scott for No. 3 in all NCAA divisions thus far.  In 200-meter dash, he beat two sprinters from Stanford as well as 72 others by over 0.40 with his 21.20-second mark which was another provisional qualifier.

MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Chad Ponciano, Azusa Pacific
So.- Alta Loma, Calif./Riverside CC

Ponciano competed in three field events and also ran the 110-meter hurdles. The decathlete placed 7th in pole vault, clearing 4.40 meters (14-feet, 5.25-inches), placed 6th in long jump with 6.55 meters (21-feet, 6-inches), and 13th in discus throw with 35.80 meters (117-feet, 5-inches).
