IRVINE, Calif. -- California Baptist hosted the CBU Lancer Men's Golf Joust this week and won the event that featured 20 teams from the West/South Central Super Region, beating Chico State by eight strokes to win the title on Tuesday. On the women's side, Academy of Art took third place out of 20 teams at the Otter Invitational on Tuesday with a score of 17-over-par 301 in the 18-hole event.
MEN
GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Ben Hallam, California Baptist
Jr. — Cheshire, England/Reedley College
Hallam finished in second place at the Joust with a score of 3-under-par 207 to lead the Lancers to the team title. The junior opened with a 3-under-par 67 in the first round, which was his best of three rounds. UC Colorado Springs' Colin Prater was the only golfer to finish ahead of Hallam, beating the Lancer by three strokes. Hallam finished a shot ahead of his teammate Greg Gonzalez, who opened the tournament in first place with a 5-under-par 65. Hallam led California Baptist to a 10-over-par 850 to beat Chico State by eight strokes and Simon Fraser in third place by 20 strokes.
WOMEN
CO-GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Jocelyn Chee, California Baptist
Fr. – Kedah, Malaysia/Regent International
Chee shot a 1-over-par 72 in the 18-hole Otter Invitational, which had its second round rained out. That put Chee in a three-way tie for third place. California Baptist took sixth place out of 20 teams with a score of 22-over-par 306.
CO-GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Anahi Servin, Academy of Art
Fr. – Asuncion, Paraguay/San Miguel Arcangel
Servin tied for third place at the Otter Invitational out of 114 athletes. The freshman had a score of 1-over-par 72 before the second round was rained out. She led Academy of Art to a third-place finish as a team with a score of 17-over-par 301.
