PACWEST SOFTBALL WEEKLY NOTEBOOK
IRVINE, Calif. -- Concordia doubled its winning streak to four after picking up two wins against Concordia (Ore.), improving to 4-1 on the season.
In the first game of the doubleheader,
Callie Nunes recorded her third career no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks for a 7-0 victory.
Biola got its season started with a busy week, playing eight games in two states. The Eagles went 3-5 with wins over St. Mary’s, Oklahoma Baptist and Saint Martin’s in Tucson, Arizona.
Kylie Velasco had 10 hits on the week, including three doubles and two home runs to lead the Eagles offense.
Early in the week, Holy Names earned a split against Sonoma State for its first win of the season. The Hawks won the first game of the series, 8-7 after
Lyndsey Widner hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning.
Haighley Kissee stayed in the game for the final two innings to put two zeros on the board and hold onto the one-run lead for the win.
PacWest play gets into full swing this week with Concordia hosting Biola on Friday. Concordia will also visit Azusa Pacific on Saturday after hosting Adelphi in a three-game series during the week.
Biola will host Adelphi on Saturday following the trip to Concordia the previous day. Academy of Art and Notre Dame de Namur will each be looking for their first wins of the season on Saturday during a doubleheader in Belmont, California. On Sunday, the Vulcans will host Chaminade for an afternoon doubleheader to start the PacWest season on the islands.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kylie Velasco, Biola
2B, So., 5-6 -- Corona, Calif.
Velasco recorded three multi-hit games in the first week of the season as Biola finally got its 2019 campaign underway. The sophomore went 4 for 7 at the plate in the first doubleheader of the season with four RBIs, three doubles and a home run. In that doubleheader she matched her total from the previous season for extra-base hits. Velasco finished the week 10 for 28 with nine RBIs and five runs as Biola went 3-5 on the week.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Callie Nunes, Concordia
P, So., 5-5 -- Modesto, Calif.
Nunes pitched her third career no-hitter on Saturday against Concordia (Ore.) to help the Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season. Nunes picked up her second win of the season as she threw an 11-strikeout no-hitter. Nunes allowed only two walks in the victory. She now has 21 strikeouts with a 1.84 earned run average on the season in three starts and 19 innings of work.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Jennifer Morinishi, Biola
OF, Fr., 5-3 -- La Palma, Calif.
Morinishi went 9 for 27 in her first week of play to start the 2019 season. She finished the week on a five-game hitting streak. The freshman had three extra-base hits and seven RBIs with five runs to help BIola earn three wins on the week. She opened her career with a 2-for-4 performance against Hope International. She then had two-consecutive multi-hit games against Oklahoma Baptist and Colorado Mesa with a double in each game. Against Saint Martin’s, Morinishi drove in two runs while going 1 for 3 at the plate.
