Academy of Art Sweeps Men's Track & Field Weekly Awards

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Track & Field Athletes of the Week are Brianna Bartello, Elle Alexander, Mobolade Ajomale and Arrun Palacio.

WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Brianna Bartello, Point Loma
Sr. – Laguna Hills, Calif./Laguna Hills/Communications 
Bartello recorded the best time in the PacWest so far this year in 800 meters, notching the first provisional qualifier in the event with a time of 2:11.79. She took sixth place in the Triton Invitational. It was the second week in a row that the middle-distance runner has competed in the 800 meters. After missing the qualifying mark by less than a second last week, Bartello got the job done in La Jolla.
 
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Elle Alexander, Azusa Pacific
Sr. – Chatham, Ill./Glenwood/Communications                                
Alexander recorded the first automatic qualifier by a PacWest athlete in any event so far this year. The senior competed in the discus at the Triton Invitational and took first place with a throw of 53.20 meters. It was a personal best and it beat the next best NCAA Division II mark at the meet by more than five meters.
 
MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Mobolade Ajomale, Academy of Art
Sr. – Richmond Hill, Canada/Communications & Media Technologies
Ajomale had two first-place finishes at the East Bay Invite, competing in the 400-meter dash and the 4x100-meter relay. Ajomale finished the 400-meter dash in a time of 47.22 seconds, competing in the event for the first time in this outdoor season. He also helped Academy of Art take first place in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 41.10 seconds.

MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Arrun Palacio, Academy of Art

Palacio had a busy week at the East Bay Invite, competing in five events with three first-place finishes. Palacio took first place in the prelims for the 100-meter dash and then finished in second place in the finals with a time of 10.91 seconds. He also took first place in the 4x100-meter relay in 41.10 seconds. In the field events, the sophomore won both the long jump and the triple jump. He recorded a career-best distance of 6.89 meters in the long jump. In the triple jump, his winning distance was 14.08 meters.
