IRVINE, Calif. – The PacWest coaches selected the list of 2019 All-PacWest award winners, which is topped by sprinters
Mobolade Ajomale from Academy of Art and
Brie Courseault from Fresno Pacific. Azusa Pacific earned the most awards, winning six of the 10 honors this year.
Point Loma also won an award with
Freda Kallenberg being named the Women’s Field Athlete of the Year and Notre Dame de Namur won its first PacWest special award in track & field as
Jason Gomez was selected as the Track Freshman of the Year.
Ajomale became the most decorated athlete in PacWest track & field/cross country history as the first athlete to ever win five special awards. The four-time PacWest Track Athlete of the Year recorded the conference’s best times this season in the 100, 200 and 400 while also being part of the best relay team in the 4x100 and the 4x400.
Courseault ran NCAA provisional qualifying times in all three sprinting events this year, including recording the PacWest’s best time in the 200-meter dash at 23.83 seconds. Last week, Courseault set a new personal record in the 100-meter dash by finishing in 11.78 seconds in the 100-meter dash.
Jack Hoyt is the PacWest Coach of the Year both for the men and the women. For the fourth year in a row, both Azusa Pacific track & field teams won conference titles. He is only the second track & field coach to win both awards and his three Coach of the Year honors is now the most in PacWest track & field history. Azusa Pacific was well-represented in the special awards with
Andy Hurtado,
Raymon Harper,
Mechaela Hyacinth and
Chin Agina all receiving honors.
