PACWEST MEN'S GOLF ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
IRVINE, Calif. – The 2019 PacWest Men’s Golf All-Conference team is led by Hawai`i Hilo’s
Jared Kinoshita and
Andrew Otani, who both earned special awards along with Holy Names head coach
Chris Oetinger, who is the PacWest Coach of the Year.
Kinoshita is the PacWest Golfer of the Year as voted on by the PacWest coaches. The senior finished the PacWest Championships in a tie for seventh place with a score of 3-over-par 219, which was just six shots behind the leader. He also goes into the NCAA postseason as the highest-ranked player in the conference. Kinoshita also won a title this year, taking first place at the Dennis Rose Invitational with a score of 11-under-par 205 to beat a field filled with some of the best golfers in the West Region.
Otani is the PacWest Freshman of the Year as he recorded the best result of a freshman at the PacWest Championships, taking fourth place with a score of 1-over-par 217. Otani helped the Vulcans finish in fourth place at the conference tournament with the team’s best score. He also helped the Vulcans win the Dennis Rose Invitational, finishing in 26th place individually with a score of 6-over-par 222.
Oetinger is the PacWest Coach of the Year after he led Holy Names to its first PacWest title in any sport with a team three-round score of 879 at the PacWest Championships. The Hawks beat Academy of Art and Dominican by three strokes each to claim the first title.
Heetae Yang won the individual title for the Hawks with a score of 3-under-par 213, while
Zachary McClure and
Ryan Lu both finished just outside the top 10. Holy Names now returns to the NCAA West Super Regional, where they took third place last year.
Five different teams are represented on the All-PacWest first team, including Kinoshita and McClure. Academy of Art’s
Gabriel Manotoc is also on the first team as the second-highest ranked player in the conference. Dominican’s
Nick Rivera and
Chad Vander Dussen from Hawai`i Pacific also earned first-team recognition.
Dominican and Academy of Art lead the conference in All-PacWest honorees with both teams placing four players on the list. Notre Dame de Namur is also represented by
Caleb Keohokapu along with Biola being represented on the third team by
Austin Bishop.
