SURPRISE, Ariz. – In her first year of collegiate tennis,
Shaline Pipa from Hawai`i Pacific earned the PacWest’s Freshman and Player of the Year awards after leading the Sharks to the No. 1 seed at the PacWest Championships to lead the All-PacWest Team.
Eleonora Liga was voted by the PacWest coaches as the Newcomer of the Year after playing No. 1 singles and doubles for Azusa Pacific. Hawai`i Pacific’s
Lauren Conching won her third career PacWest Coach of the Year award as a result of leading the Sharks to earn the No. 1 seed in the PacWest Championships.
Pipa went 15-1 on the season, playing predominantly No. 1 singles for the Sharks. She went undefeated against PacWest opponents and recorded wins over nationally-ranked opponents this season.
Liga transferred to Azusa Pacific and took over the top position in the Cougars lineup, where she went 19-1 in singles. The only loss came in a super tiebreaker and she only lost one full set all season since the season-opening match.
Conching led Hawai`i Pacific to a 13-7 record this season, including a 9-1 record when facing PacWest teams. The Sharks are ranked No. 8 in the country for the ITA and No. 1 in the West Region according to the NCAA going into the 2022 PacWest Championships.
Biola’s
Colbeyshae Emery is a first-team All-PacWest honoree for singles for the second year in a row, and she is joined on the team by Hawai`i Pacific’s
Marlene Tilgner, who was the only player to defeat Liga all year.
Madison Kane was also named to the first team in singles for Azusa Pacific along with three-time All-PacWest selection
Sofia Ragona from Academy of Art.
