Azusa Pacific’s Chip Cox named PacWest Men’s Soccer Defender of the Week

Chip Cox PHOENIX, Ariz. – Azusa Pacific junior goalie Chip Cox (Scottsdale, AZ/Chaparral) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Men's Soccer Defender of the Week.

The conference announced the honor on Monday, Sept. 16, for matches contested Sept. 9-15.

The Defender of the Week honor is awarded each week to a back or goalkeeper for outstanding defensive play.

Cox led the Cougars to a 3-0 week after recording 13 saves in 279:02 minutes of action with a 0.65 goals against average. He also had an .867 save percentage.

Cox recorded four saves in a 1-0 home shutout of Hope International on Sept. 9. He also halted 6 of 7 shots in a 2-1 overtime victory vs. Montana State-Billings on Sept. 12 and repelled 3 of 4 attempts on Sept. 14 in a 2-1 win over Concordia (CA).
