2014 All-PacWest Women’s Basketball Team Announced

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – PacWest regular season champion Academy of Art earned four individual awards and five All-PacWest honors, as the All-PacWest women's basketball teams were announced Thursday, prior to the beginning of the conference tournament. Krystal Forthan was named the PacWest Player and Newcomer of the Year, as well as first-team All-PacWest.

Academy of Art was also recognized with PacWest Defensive Player of the Year Jasmin Guinn and PacWest Coach of the Year LaNay Larson. California Baptist's Kamile Diaz was named PacWest Freshman of the Year.

The defending PacWest Tournament champions, Academy of Art claimed its first regular-season title this season with an 18-2 conference record. The Urban Knights won 11-straight conference games at one point in the season. In addition to Forthan's first-team honor, Zoie Sheng was named to the second team, and Guinn, Regina Camera and Sha'Nice Storey to the third team.

Even though she didn't start playing until the final game of 2013, Forthan made a dramatic impact during the PacWest season. The LSU transfer led the PacWest in rebounding in conference games (12.1 rpg) and ranked third in scoring (18.6 ppg) and fourth in blocks (41). She recorded 14 double-doubles, including 13-consecutive to close out the season. She had 10 games with multiple blocks, including an ART U record seven blocks against Dixie State.

Point Loma earned four All-PacWest members, while California Baptist and Holy Names each had three. The other members of the first team included Diaz, Holy Names' Sonia Aguilar, Azusa Pacific's Kelly Hardeman and Sendy Valles, Dixie State's Haley Holmstead, and Hawai'i Pacific's Skye Savini.
