PHOENIX, AZ - BYU-Hawaii senior guard Marques
Whippy (Bua, Fiji/Woods Cross, UT) has been named the
final Pacific West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the
Week for the 2010-11 campaign.
The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix,
AZ, on Thursday, March 17, for games contested at the NCAA II West
Regional March 11-14. He was named the MVP of the West Region
Tournament.
Whippy averaged 17.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in
leading the Seasiders to the NCAA II West Region Championship and a
berth in the Elite Eight.
He also averaged 4.0 assists, 2.3 blocks and 2.7 steals per game
while shooting 55.0% (22 for 40) from the field.
Whippy led the seventh-seeded Seasiders to an 83-76 upset of
second-seed Cal St. Dominguez Hills in the quarterfinals on March
11, followed by a 100-91 win over sixth-seed Alaska Anchorage in
the semifinals.
BYU-Hawaii then knocked off fourth-seed Dixie State 79-73 in the
All-PacWest title game.

and 4.3 rebounds per game in helping lead the Seasiders to an NCAA
Division II West Region Championship and a berth in the Elite
Eight...shot 44.7% (17 for 38) from the field...made 15 of 19
(78.9%) free throw attempts.
Jake Dastrup - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 6-3, 195, G, Grant’s Pass,
OR/Grant’s Pass)...averaged 13.3 points and 2.3
rebounds per game in helping lead the Seasiders to the NCAA
Division II West Region Championship and a berth in the Elite
Eight...shot 48.3% (14 for 29) from the field...made 11 of 23
(47.8%) from beyond the arc...averaged 3.7 three-pointers made per
game.
Mamadou Diarra - Chaminade (Jr., 7-0, 235, C,
Bamako, Mali/Stoneridge Prep)...posted 10 points,
four blocks and 15 rebounds in 92-81 loss vs. Dixie State in the
NCAA II West Quarterfinals on March 11.
