LA JOLLA, Calif.- Azusa Pacific’s postseason run came to a close on Saturday, falling to UC San Diego, 4-2, in the NCAA Women’s Soccer West Region Second Round. The PacWest champion Cougars ended their 2016 season at 12-4-4.

Ninth-ranked UCSD pressed hard from the start, scoring three goals in the first 25 minutes of play. APU scored in the 36th minute, when Lindsey Ryals played a cross to the right post and Emile Allum finished with a header just ahead of a UCSD defender.

The second half started with a critical sequence, as a shot from Kennedy Christie went just wide, and UCSD came back with a breakaway for a one-on-one goal to go up, 4-1. APU continued to press and scored again in the 64th minute. Hayley Arft sent a second corner kick into the box, and Victoria Kovatch was able to put her head on it, over a Triton defender and the leaping goalkeeper, into the middle of the net.
