APU, CBU Advance in NCAA West Women’s Regional

AZUSA, Calif. – Azusa Pacific and California Baptist both won their opening round games at the NCAA Women’s West Regional on Friday. No. 3 CBU beat No. 6 Academy of Art, 93-70. No. 1 Azusa Pacific topped No. 8 Montana State Billings, 83-75.
 
CBU moves on to play No. 2 Alaska Anchorage in the semifinals on Saturday at 5 p.m. APU will follow against No. 4 UC San Diego at 7:30 p.m.
 
In the second matchup between ART U and CBU in the last two weeks, the Lancers were in control from the start, shooting 46.5 percent and making 11 three-pointers. Cassidy Mihalko led all scorers with 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Megan Frerer logged a double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds.
 
APU trailed 15-8 midway through the first quarter, but closed the frame on a 13-2 run. The Cougars never trailed after that, leading by as many as 14 early in the third quarter. Allison Greene and Kelly Hardeman each scored 17 points. Greene added six assists and three steals. Cydnie Jones recorded 16 points and five steals, and Maggie Dumphy added 13 points and nine rebounds.
