APU, CBU Lose in NCAA Women’s Basketball Semifinals

AZUSA, Calif. – Azusa Pacific and California Baptist fell in the second round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball West Regional on Saturday night. No. 3 CBU lost to No. 2 Alaska Anchorage in overtime, 83-79. No. 1 APU fell to No. 4 UC San Diego, 87-77.
 
Kamille Diaz scored with nine seconds left to force overtime in the matchup of two top-five national teams. Alaska Anchorage closed the extra frame with a 7-2 run for the win. Diaz scored a game-high 23 points and had eight rebounds. Cassidy Mihalko doubled up with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Leading by eight points at halftime, Azusa Pacific was outscored by 18 in the second half to ends its first-ever run in the NCAA Championship. The Tritons made 21-of-25 free throws in the second half. Kelly Hardeman led the Cougars with 24 points. Cydnie Jones recorded 22 points and nine rebounds.
