California Baptist Advances To West Regional Final

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Senior Aidan Apodaca scored two goals to break the PacWest single-season scoring record and send California Baptist to the NCAA West Regional Championship match with a 5-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Lancers remain unbeaten at 17-0-2 going into Thursday's regional final against No. 6 Cal Poly Pomona, which will be played in Wichita Falls, Texas. The winner will face the South Central Region Champion on Saturday.

Apodaca opened the scoring with his record-breaking goal in the 30th minute off a pass from Sebastian Wiesboeck, which went on to count as the game-winner with the Lancers' recording their 11th shutout of the season.

Victor Aguirre scored the first insurance goal in the 37th minute to make the score 2-0. Apodaca then added his second goal of the game to start the second half, effectively putting the match out of reach for the Toros, which won the CCAA regular season title.

Freshman Preston Judd scored the next two goals, coming just over a minute apart, scoring in the 86th and 87th minutes. Chris Heckenberg? assisted the second goal by Judd for his second assist of the win.

This was the second time this season that California Baptist scored at least five goals in a shutout victory. The Lancers improved to 4-0-1 against CCAA opponents going into Thursday's contest against Cal Poly Pomona. California Baptist has outscored its opponents 21-2 in those game.
