Dominican Defends Way to 3-0 Start, Biola Gets Offensive with 6 Goals

Dominican swept through Hawai`i, literally, to earn Team and Defender of the Week in Pacific West Conference men’s soccer. Biola scored six times during a win over Fresno Pacific and secured the Player of the Week honor.

The Penguins won all three road matches on the islands to improve to 7-3 overall and to 3-0 in the PacWest. Their defense was a big part of that, with defender Louie Galdamez getting his coaches vote as Defender of the Week. For the third time this year, a Biola scorer earns Player of the Week, but this time it's Aiden Hill (not Kristian Colaci).

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Biola’s Aiden Hill, MF, 5-7, Sr., Peoria, Ill.
Yes, Biola’s Kristian Colaci scored again, but this time it is Aiden Hill who gets the Player of the Week award. Hill assisted on Colaci’s goal and one another, and also scored the first goal of the contest in the 6-0 conquest of Fresno Pacific. For the season, the 2021 Third Team All-PacWest selection has a pair of goals and three assists (seven points), second on the Eagle squad. The win over the Sunbirds was Biola’s only match of the week as they moved to 1-0 in PacWest play, 2-3-3 overall.

DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Dominican’s Louie Galdamez, D, 6-0, Sr., San Jose, Calif.
Dominican outscored their Hawai`i opponents 5-1, allowing just one goal during a 3-1 victory over UH Hilo. Their defense was obviously a big part of their 3-0 PacWest start, and not just goalkeeper Alejandro Reyes. Senior defender Louis Galdamez was a key leader in the back, according to his coach, David Frank. “Louie’s leadership, physical presence, and influence in all three games on both sides of the ball this week was phenomenal,” Frank said. “He probably won every defensive aerial duel and every tackle he challenged for in all three games. Plus, his possession rate and ability to start attacks was instrumental for us.”

PENGUINS PUT PRESSURE ON WITH 3 WINS: The PacWest Team of the Week is the Dominican Penguins. Dominican scored five times in three matches on the islands, by five different players. In the win over the Hawai`i Hilo, the Penguins came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to score three times in the second half for the 3-1 win. They then held off Hawai`i Pacific and Chaminade by 1-0 scores to begin conference 3-0 and they are a PacWest best 7-3 overall. Coach David Frank’s team is 4-2 against CCAA schools this Fall and are now 3-1 against PacWest clubs (loss to FPU in non-conference match).
