HILO, Hawai`i--
Just like they drew it up, right?

Analisa Gjonovich's rocket corner kick hit the back post and bounded into the net just four minutes into the match to give Concordia University Irvine a 1-0 victory over Cal State LA in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II West Region tournament on the campus of Hawai`i Hilo.

The Golden Eagles, the #5 seed, now advances to take on the top seed and host Vulcans. That match is set for Saturday at 1 pm PT. Concordia will carry a 13-4-2 mark into Saturday clash against the 13-0-3 UH Hilo team.

Cal State LA, the #4 seed and also the Golden Eagles, ends its season at 11-4-6. The victory for Concordia also gained them a measure of revenge, after losing to the other Golden Eagles back on September 8 in Los Angeles, 1-0.

Back to Gjonovich's kick. In the fourth minute, at the east end of the Vulcan Soccer Field on a set piece, the senior sent a bullet towards the scrum of people in the box. The ball twisted past everyone, hit the bottom of the back post, and slipped into the goal.

It was Gjonovich's third goal of the season and surely her only one off a corner kick.

As it turned out, that score would hold up in a match of evenly matched teams. CSULA's best chance as the equalizer came with about 17 minutes left on a free kick that that twisted around Golden Eagle defenders but right into the arms of CUI keeper Riley Urquiza.

When it was over, both teams had three shots on goal. Cal State LA had seven total shots and Concordia had five.

With Point Loma's 1-0 win over Sonoma State today, three of the four teams in the west region semifinals are from the PacWest.

Concordia and Hawai`i Hilo will be meeting for the second time this year. The Vulcans won in Irvine in late September, 3-1.
