'Swords get rematch with Seawolves, with more much on the line

BELLINGHAM, Wash.--One of Chaminade's opponent during the first weekend of the 2022 volleyball season was Alaska Anchorage. Now in mid-November, the Silverswords hope that the Seawolves won't be the the last team they play this year.

No. 8 seed Chaminade takes on No. 1 Alaska Anchorage tomorrow (Thursday) in the opening round of the NCAA Division II West Region Championships. The 2:30 pm match will be the second of four matches on the day at Carver Gymnasium on the Western Washington University campus.

The Pacific West Conference champion Silverswords bring a 24-7 overall record to Bellingham, but one of those losses was to the Seawolves back on August 20. UAA won on that day in Honolulu, 25-15, 25-20, 25-22. That was part of a slow start to the season for the 'Swords, who began the year at 2-6.

But the back-to-back conference champs would right the ship and go on to win 24 of their next 25 matches, including their last eight. They would love nothing more to continue that streak with an upset of the Seawolves and move on to the west region semifinals.

It certainly won't be easy. The GNAC champions, ranked fourth in the latest AVCA national poll, are 27-2 in 2022. They have won six straight, including the last three matches of the regular season in straight sets.

The loser of the match is done for the season. The winner advances to a 6:30 pm Friday match-up against the winner of Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona. To follow all of the NCAA West Region action, go to....
