Four Teams Grab Six Points (Two Wins)

Point Loma, Concordia, Hawai`i Hilo and Chaminade have perfect weeks.

Four teams made significant progress up the PacWest standings with 2-0 records last week. In Hawai`i Hilo's two wins, Jazlynn Ellis scored twice and assisted on a pair of scores to earn Player of the Week. Point Loma wins a close race for Team of the week with big wins over Westmont and Vanguard, and CUI defender Madison Hall directed the Golden Eagle defense to a total of two shots on goal in two matches.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hawai`i Hilo's Jazlynn Ellis, F-D, Sr., 5-9, Parker, Colo.                                                     
Hawai`i Hilo's Jazlynn Ellis played a huge part in her teams scoring seven goals in two matches last week. Ellis had two goals and an assist during a 4-2 win over Dominican on Sunday, and she had a assist earlier in the week during a 3-0 shutout of Academy of Art. Ellis, who was the PacWest Newcomer of the Year in 2023 after transferring from Illinois Chicago, now has 11 career goals and seven assists in just a little over two seasons as a Vulcan. 
 
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Concordia's Madison Hall, MF, Jr., 5-1, Chandler, Ariz.                                                
Concordia's Madison Hall directed the Golden Eagle defense to another pair of shutouts in 2-0 wins over Biola and Fresno Pacific. In the 180 minutes played, each opponent only managed five total shots and a meager two shots on goal. The Golden Eagles have yet to give up a goal the entire season, and their Saturday win at home against FPU was their 13th consecutive victory at home. "Madison Hall has been an incredible part of our defense, pretty much the brains of that back row," said her coach Chris Gould.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Point Loma Sea Lions                                                                                                                 
Point Loma, the defending NCAA champion topped Vanguard (1-0) and Westmoint (2-0) to improve to 4-0 in conference play and 7-1-1 overall. It was the fourth straight shutout for the Sea Lions and their fifth straight win. Against the Lions, Molly Bachman scored her first collegiate goal for the only score of the game, despite Point Loma outshooting Vanguard, 27-5. Bethany Arabe and Andrea Lozano provided the goals in the win over the Warriors. Julia Pinnell was in the goal for both shutout, totaling two saves in each match. 

NATIONAL NOTICE: The PacWest has three teams in the Top 25 in the October 8 United States Coaches Association national poll. Concordia jumps up to No. 6, Point Loma is No. 15 and Hawai`i Hilo is No. 23. Azusa Pacific is the first one on the list among "Others Receiving Votes."
 
PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Chaminade went 2-0 last week with a pair of 1-0 victories over Academy of Art and Dominican. Isabella Holly was in goal for the Silverswords for the two shutouts, totaling three saves...Westmont handed Azusa Pacific its first conference loss during a wild 3-2 verdict. Madeline Steinbach had two goals for the Warriors, leading her team back from a 1-0 deficit. Amarys Machado had a assist and the game winning goal at 86:46...Everyone talks about Concordia's defense, so here is an offensive note--Sarah Venegas had a goal and a assist against Biola...Dominican's Natalie Haro had a shutout with eight saves in a 1-0 Penguin win over Hawai`i Pacific...First-year members Jessup and Menlo battled to a 1-1 tie on Thursday...Hawai`i Hilo's Filippa Graneld had two assists against ART U and another versus Dominican...Hawai`i Pacific shutout Academy of Art on Sunday in Oahu, relying on two first half goals and shutdown defense.

LOOKING AHEAD 
There are 11 matches on the PacWest docket this week, beginning with Wednesday's big Point Loma at Azusa Pacific match-up and Jessup at Hawaii Pacific. Thursday features Biola at Academy of Art, Menlo at Chaminade and Westmont at Vanguard. Saturday wraps up the week with a titantic game between Concordia and Point Loma. Additionally, Fresno Pacific is at Westmont, Biola at Dominican, Jessup at Hawaii Hilo, Vanguard at Azusa Pacific and Menlo at Hawaii Pacific.
