The first official NCAA Division II West Region womens' soccer ranking is out, and it looks a lot like the top half of the current Pacific West Conference standings.
Four PacWest teams list in the top six heading into the final week of the regular season. At the conclusion of the conference tournaments in the region (Nov. 14-16), the three league tournament champions and the next four teams on this list will make their way to the NCAA postseason.
Concordia is second in the poll announced by the NCAA office today, followed by Point Loma, Hawai`i Hilo and Azusa Pacific. Cal Poly Pomona occupies the top spot and Western Washington is sixth.
Ultimately, the top team in the final ranking on Nov. 18 will host one half of the bracket and get a first round bye, awaiting the winner of the #4 vs. #5 match. The #2 seed will host the other side of the bracket without a bye, playing #7 while #3 plays #6.
