Point Loma Pockets Win Over No. 14 Concordia

The Sea Lions get the road win behind Priya Torres pair of goals. Hawaii Hilo's Lydia Keller claimed her fourth straight shutout in a 2-0 win over Chaminade.

Point Loma posted a massive early-season WSOC result last week, topping #14 nationally ranked Concordia on the road, 2-1. Priya Torres scored both goals in that victory to claim Player of the Week, while Hawaii Hilo’s Lydia Keller posted her fourth straight shutout to gain Defender of the Week.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Point Loma Sea Lions                                                                                                   
Point Loma is the Team of the Week after putting together a pair of impressive non-conference victories against PacWest teams. Their 2-1 road victory at nationally ranked Concordia handed the Golden Eagles their first loss of the season, and they also glided past Biola, 4-0. Against CUI, Priya Torres scored both goals (see below). Against the Eagles, Maddie Khan provided two assists and Maddy Saruwatari pocked two scores. Goalkeeper Cameron Simmons totaled eight saves in the two matches to help the Sea Lions improve to 3-2-3 on the season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Point Loma’s Priya Torres, MF, Jr., 5-7, Moorpark, Calif.                                      
Point Loma’s Priya Torres scored both goals, getting her team on the board first in the fifth minute and then adding what would be the game winner in the 66th in the win over No. 14 Concordia. It was the second and third goals of the season for Torres, who accomplished the pair of scores on just three shots. The 5-foot-7 forward was the 2024 PacWest Freshman of the Year, and also earned a Player of the Week honor that season.

DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Hawaii Hilo’s Lydia Keller, GK, Jr., 5-4, Idaho Falls, Idaho                            
Hawaii Hilo’s Lydia Keller posted her fourth straight shutout in blanking Chaminade on Sunday, 2-0. Keller faced 12 Silversword shots and saved all three on goal to help the Vulcans win their third straight match. Her four shutouts leads the PacWest in that category and she now has 12 career shutouts. It’s the third PacWest Defender of the Week honor for the Idaho native in two seasons, who was the PacWest Goalkeeper of the Year in 2025.
 
PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Vanguard won their lone match last week, defeating former conference member Fresno Pacific, 3-0. Grayton Normand had four saves in notching the shutout…Dominican split matches last week, defeating Jessup 5-1, and losing to CSU East Bay, 4-2. Guilianna McCarty had two assists in the win over the Warriors…Last week's United Soccer Coaches Association West Region poll (Sept. 15) looked like this (the next poll will come out tomorrow, Sept. 22). LOOKING AHEAD: PacWest play begins for real this week with six matches on the docket. On Wednesday, Westmont kicks off the conference season at Vanguard. Thursday features Chaminade at Point Loma and Saturday’s slate features Hawaii Pacific goes to Point Loma, Dominican is at Westmont, Chaminade visits Biola and Hawaii Hilo goes to Concordia in the Match of the Week.
