Sharks are Team of the Week Again, BU's Denn Has Hat Trick

Hawai`i Pacific topped Point Loma in San Diego and tied Biola. BU's Kyle Denn had a hat trick and a additional goal for Player of the Week honors.

Hawaii Pacific repeats as Team of the Week after an impressive SoCal road trip. The Sharks upset Point Loma in San Diego and scored late to salvage a tie with Biola. Meanwhile, BU’s Kyle Denn had a hat trick against Chaminade and a a goal in that HPU draw for Player of the Week.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Hawaii Pacific Sharks                                                                                                  
Hawaii Pacific is the Team of the Week again after a road win over defending champ Point Loma (2-1) and a 2-2 tie with Biola. Pedro Ashley scored first against the Sea Lions to get the Sharks on the board, and Danny Pascanu scored the game winner in the 70th minute. It was the first victory for HPU over PLNU since 2022. Against Biola, the Sharks trailed 2-0 before storming back with goals by Jackson Palladino (41st minute) and Olle Ridelius’ equalizer at 87:29. Hawaii Pacific is now tied for the conference lead at 1-0-1 and the Sharks are 4-3-1 overall.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Biola’s Kyle Denn, MF, Jr., 5-9, Medford, Oregon                                                 
Biola’s Kyle Denn deposited the first hat trick of his career with three goals against Chaminade in a 5-1 victory. The second-year Eagle scored in the 14th, 57th and 67th minutes to help the Eagles secure their first win of the season. The Oregon native, who transferred to Biola a year ago from Univ. of Indy, also had a goal in the 2-2 tie with Hawaii Pacific.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Dominican’s Jake Kazlauskas had two goals and an assist during a 5-1 win over Jessup. He also scored a goal in a 2-2 draw with Westmont…Vanguard’s Tyler Williams had two goals and an assist on the week, a 4-3 win over Westmont and a 2-2 tie with Hawaii Hilo… Hilo defeated Concordia on the road 2-1, with keeper Tim Teicher providing nine saves for the defense…Point Loma split a pair of home matches, defeating Chaminade and losing to Hawaii Pacific…The PacWest has two teams in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association West Region poll (Sept. 29). (1) CSU Los Angeles (8-0-1), (2) CSU San Bernardino (7-0-2), (3) Northwest Nazarene (6-1-3), (4) CSU San Marcos (6-2-1), (5) Seattle Pacific (7-2-0), (6) Western Oregon (4-2-4), (7) Western Washington (6-3-1), (8) CSU Monterey Bay (4-2-3), (9) Hawaii Hilo (4-3-0), (10) Point Loma (4-3-3).

LOOKING AHEAD: Just seven matches are on the PacWest schedule this week, but there are some big games to circle on your calendar for sure. Today (Tuesday), Chaminade visits Concordia. On Thursday, the Silverswords go to Vanguard, Hawaii Hilo is at Biola and Hawaii Pacific goes to Concordia. Saturday wraps up the week with HPU at Vanguard, Jessup at Westmont and Hilo goes to Point Loma in a battle of two 2025 NCAA playoff teams .
