2.2   CONDITIONS AND OBLIGATIONS OF MEMBERSHIP

 
2.2.1          Membership is limited to four-­-year colleges and universities in which there is institutional responsibility for, oversight and control of intercollegiate athletics.
 
2.2.2          To be a regular member of the Conference, an institution must participate in and sponsor five
(5) sports for men and five (5) sports for women OR four (4) sports for men and six (6) sports for women; with at least two being team sports in both genders.  The two (2) team sports shall come from the following designations:  Men –  one (1) being either basketball or baseball, and others from a list that includes basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, outdoor track & field, soccer and tennis. Women – one (1) being either basketball or volleyball, and others from a list that includes: basketball, cross country, golf, outdoor track & field, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.
 
2.2.3          Members agree to administer their athletic programs in accord with the Constitution & Bylaws, Operations Code, Sport Regulations, and other legislation of the Conference.
 
2.2.4          Official sports for Women and Men are listed in table below:

2.2.5          All member institutions must compete in the official Conference sports which the institution sponsors unless an exception is granted by the Commissioner in a waiver review and appeals process noted in the Conference Operations Code (section 2.2.1.1).  
 
2.2.6          Each member institution shall compete against all other member institutions as designated in approved Conference schedules. The sports of men's and women's cross country, men’s and women's tennis, men’s and women’s golf, and men’s and women’s outdoor track & field shall hold a Conference tournament that serves as the approved Conference schedule.  All Conference schools that qualify under the qualifying standards in the above listed sports are required to participate.
 
2.2.7          Member institutions agree that their primary athletic responsibility and loyalty are to this Conference, including priorities in the scheduling of athletic events, allocation of fiscal and facility resources, participation in Conference championships and events, and as representatives of this Conference to NCAA-­-sponsored championships and extra events.
 
2.2.8          The membership of any institution failing to meet the conditions and obligations of membership may be disciplined, including but not limited to: a letter of admonishment, withholding of weekly awards, withholding of season awards, withholding of grant funds, probation, suspension or termination of the member institution. 
 
For rulings regarding specific teams, the Commissioner has the authority to determine the penalty. If the Commissioner believes the violation is institution-wide, or the institution is a repeat violator, the Commissioner shall bring the violation to the Advisory Board to decide if the violation is institution-wide, or a repeat violator via a three--fourths vote of all members present and voting. From there the penalty will be referred to the Executive Committee to be decided at any regular or special meeting of the Executive Board and a vote may be called for suspension or termination. Any decision made in regard to penalties can be appealed to the PacWest Appeals Committee. (Revised 5/25/23)

2.2.8.1    For purposes of this regulation, probation shall mean restricted participation in the Conference.
 
2.2.8.2    For purposes of this regulation, suspension shall mean temporary severance from the Conference under conditions specified by the Executive Board. Reinstatement of membership status shall be delineated in said conditions.
 
2.2.8.3    For purposes of this regulation, termination shall mean complete severance from the Conference.  A member institution shall not be entitled to receive any Conference controlled financial distributions following termination.
