Azusa Pacific’s Stressling Leads 2018 PacWest Awards

PACWEST WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ALL-PACWEST

IRVINE, Calif.
– Azusa Pacific’s Eileen Stressling was selected by the PacWest coaches as the 2018 PacWest Runner of the Year after winning the PacWest Championships to lead the 2018 PacWest Women’s Cross Country awards.

Academy of Art received two awards with Hasna Kaarour being named the PacWest Newcomer of the Year, while Audrey Rosencrans is the PacWest Freshman of the Year. For the second time in three years, Point Loma’s head coach Jerry Arvin is the PacWest Coach of the Year.

Stressling earned her second PacWest Runner of the Year recognition after receiving the award in 2015. As a sophomore, Stressling won the PacWest Championships and she repeated as the champion in 2018. Stressling covered the 6k course at Woodward Park in 21:14.8 to win the race by 49 seconds. Stressling also had three top-10 finishes during the regular season.

Kaarour took second place at the PacWest Championships with a time of 22:04.1 to lead Academy of Art to a fourth-place team finish. Kaarour transferred to Academy of Art from Stendhal University to receive her graduate degree in Landscape Architecture. Kaarour was named the PacWest Runner of the Week three times during the 2018 season with the last honor coming after she won the Triton Classic with a time of 22:04.5.

Rosencrans was the first freshman across the finish line at the PacWest Championships, finishing in 11th place to earn second-team All-PacWest honors. The PacWest Freshman of the Year finished the championships with a time of 22:48.0. Rosencrans also competed at the San Francisco State Invitational and took eighth place with a time of 22:53.9 to help Academy of Art take second place as a team.

Arvin earned his second PacWest Coach of the Year recognition by leading Point Loma to its first PacWest Championship in the closest race in the history of the PacWest Championships. The Sea Lions tied for fourth place in 2017 and improved on that with five All-PacWest runners leading the Sea Lions to the title based on the head-to-head tiebreaker. During the regular season, Point Loma took first place at the Biola Invitational and then placed second in the Triton Classic to go along with two other top-3 finishes in the regular season.
